Our Krill Oil

We proudly offer to your pet (dog or cat) this exclusive supplement, pure and produced from sustainable and ecologically sensitive resources. Our krill oil contributes to maximize a healthy state for your pet, supplying to its organism the more bioavailable omega 3 fatty acids EPA and DHA.

What is krill

Antarctic krill (Euphausia superba) is a source of highly bioavailable phospholipid omega-3 fatty acids, the powerful antioxidant Astaxanthin and high quality proteins intended for pet food, treats and nutritional supplements.
Krill live in the coldest and purest waters on Earth, the Antarctic Ocean. Unlike fish, they are free from heavy metals and other pollutants as they live in areas that are completely absent of industrial factories.

What is Astaxanthin

Antarctic krill is a good source of natural antioxidant Astaxanthin, which gives it its red colour.
Astaxantin protects agains the cell oxidation caused by free radicals, and makes the lipid stable against chemical reactions.
Its antioxidant capacity is 500 times greater than vitamin E and 10 times greater that beta-carotene.
Astaxanthin also keeps the krill oil fresh, naturally preserving it from oxidation.

Omega-3 fatty acids have proven health benefits

Omega-3 fatty acids are proven to have numerous health benefits for pets, just like humans
Numerous clinical studies in pets have proven the health benefits of the long chain omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA, which are vital components in every cell membrane supporting cell survival, growth, renewal and other critical functions.
As such, health promoting effects of EPA and DHA are found in several vital organs, including the heart, kidney, liver, joints, brain, eyes and skin, and are beneficial to maintain a healthy coat.

Omega 3 fatty acids from krill are bounded to phospholipids which increases their bioavalability. They are superior to Omega 3 triglycerides from fish.
The Omega-3 fatty acids in krill oil are mainly present in a phospholipid form, which are the building blocks of all cell membranes. This ensures efficiency delivery of these fatty acids to cells, tissues and organs.
The omega-3s in most pet food are derived from oily fish, providing omega-3s in triglyceride form.Triglycerides are insoluble in water and have a different structure to the lipids in the cell membranes, and instead function as long-term energy storage.
Phospholipid omega-3s are the building blocks of cell membranes and have a higher uptake into the cell membranes. Being water dispersible makes them gentler on the stomach and more readily absorbed by the body.
Elevated concentrations of omega-3s in vital organs, such as the brain, eyes and liver, are observed when they are delivered as omega-3 phospholipids compared to omega-3 triglycerides.

Weight management

Compared to healthy dogs, those who are overweight and obese have an increased level of signaling molecules (endocannabinoids) that influence appetite and emotional state.
Krill phopsholipid omega-3s have been shown to decrease the level of these signaling molecules, which can have a positive effect in the regulation of food intake in obese animals.

Omega-3 fatty acids help to maintain a healthy omega-6:3 ratio in the diet, which has been shown to provide anti-inflammatory properties
Many pet foods for dogs and cats contain excessive amounts of omega-6 fatty acids. Current research indicates that a balanced ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids of 5:1 or lower would be most beneficial for pets and humans.
A typical dog food is based on cereal and meat and is therefore high in omega-6. Too much omega-6 fatty acids promotes inflammation and may exacerbate conditions, such as skin disease, arthritis, and renal problems. Achieving the right fatty acid balance is important in maintaining good health.

Not all Omega-3 fatty acids are equal

Humans and animals are limited in their ability to convert plant-based omega-3 fatty acids (ALA) into EPA and DHA. Approximately 5 % or less of dietary ALA from plants is converted to EPA, and less than 0,5 % of dietary ALA is converted to DHA.

Healthy heart
Krill oil contributes towards a reduction in cardiovascular disease and improve the cholesterol and triglyceride balance.
Joint care
Krill oil has proven to be effective against inflamation of the connective tissues like cartilage or tendons.
Omega-3’s are anti-inflammatory nutrients that can help balance the body’s level of inflammation and promote health and wellness. Omega-3s work with the body to bring it back into balance. When the body’s inflammation level is balanced, there is less illness and disease.
Skin and coat
Krill oil is rich in EPA and DHA, thereby promoting healthy skin and a shiny coat.
Omega 3 also helps to fight dermatitis and eccema.

Brain and visión

Omega-3s help to improve the cognitive functions as they act on the transmission of information in the nervous system.
A correct level of EPA and DHA requires less light stimulation to cause a photoelectric response.

Sustainable & Ecologically Sensitive Resource

Krill is one of the largest biomasses on Earth and it is strongly preserved. The Commision for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) strictly limits the fishing area (area 48) where, from an estimated biomass of over 60 million tonnes, only 1% is allowed to be fished.
In 2011 only 0,35% of the total biomass was harvested.
Our krill is MSC Certified, the highest certification of sustainable fishing in the world.

Total traceability & quality

Production processes are closely controlled over the entire sequence of actions from harvesting of krill in the Southern Ocean, to delivery of products to customers. Every product batch can be traced back to the coordinates of the vessel when the harvesting took place, in the purest waters on earth.
By controlling the entire supply chain, from harvesting krill, processing raw materials, final processing and packing to preserve the pristine freshness, we are able to guarantee the highest level of quality
