Our dog food
Our aim was to search for natural and healthy ingredients to produce the very best hypoallergenic dog foods. The result was this No expense has been spared on our recipes. Every ingredient has been selected with care and included in appropriate quantities, to provide your dog with the best nutrition possible.
That is the only way to ensure you will receive the ultimate in high quality, hypoallergenic and luxury dog food.
Fresh meat & eggs as proteins
No meat meals. We include a selection of fresh duck meat and fresh eggs.
Fresh meat & eggs as proteins
As part of your family we believe that your dog deserves nutritious and digestible protein to live a long and happy life, as well as for strong muscle development and healthy metabolism.
Whilst most foods contain highly processed meals, made from some of the more undesirable animal by-products, we have chosen to use fresh duck and fresh eggs as our primary sources of protein. Since they have not previously been frozen or cooked they maintain their nutritional value and superior palatability, and are rich in natural nutrients such as glucosamine & chondroitin.
Also, in order to minimize costs, many meals contain very high levels of bone which your dog does not need.
By using only fresh meat we are able to blend different cuts to precisely meet your dogs mineral requirement, and in a natural bioavailable form.
We also select local producers where possible, from farms with excellent welfare standards and extensive rearing practices.
Additional features of our foods are that we only use one meat source, to avoid dietary intolerances and allergies, and our protein level is perfectly balanced for our domestic pets.
Some may choose to incorporate insignificant quantities of several meats for marketing purposes, and some may favor very high protein levels, but we and our nutritionists strongly believe that you will see that Land of Sybaris provides optimal nutrition by the health and vitality of your dog.
Furthermore, unlike chicken, duck has a stronger, more attractive flavor for dogs, and intolerance is extremely rare.
Grain free carbohydrates
No cereals. We have selected a variety of ancient seeds, pulses and tubers with a range of glycaemic indexes.
Grain free carbohydrates
Carbohydrates play an essential part in our dog food. They provide texture for teeth cleaning, sustained and gradual energy provision, satiety to ensure your dog is not constantly hungry, and a wonderful baked flavour and aroma that dog crave.
We have avoided using cereals, which are used in vast quantities in most commercial foods, and instead have carefully selected ancient seeds, pulses & tubers (such as quinoa, Puy lentils, amaranth, peas & sweet potato) that have been staple ingredients for many civilisations around the world for centuries. Apart from their gluten-free, hypoallergenic properties, they possess lower glycaemic Index values that reduce the risk of diabetes and excessive weight gain, and provide controlled energy throughout the day to avoid obesity. As we know too well with our own food, continual high intakes of bread, pasta, potatoes, and rice can lead to excessive weight gain whereas lentils, pulses, seeds and sweet potatoes often form part of wholesome, calorie controlled diets.
Optimum inclusion of fruits & vegetables
Selected for their antioxidation, digestion and prebiotic properties.
Optimum inclusion of fruits & vegetables
A key decision in the formulation of our food was whether to follow the popular trend of adding minute quantities of many fruits and vegetables for marketing purposes, or choose a small selection of high quality ingredients with known nutritional benefits. In the end the decision was simple. A pinch of apple and a sprinkle of broccoli will never benefit your dog however, the powerful antioxidant properties of gojiberry, blueberry, and cranberry, included in substantial quantities, will no doubt promote health and vitality.
Also, our naturally dried, rubbed herbs (nettle, dandelion & peppermint) have been selected to promote digestion, and our spices (turmeric, cinnamon & ginger) have been known for many years to aid the control of blood sugar, and provide a tonic for metabolism and digestion.
Norwegian ascophyllum seaweed is added for its prebiotic properties and yucca Shidigera extract for its deodorizing ability and, once again, they have been carefully selected for their purity and quality.
& salmon oils
For energy and omega-6 & 3 essential fatty acids.
Pure duck & salmon oils
To complement the flavour of our meats we use a refined local duck fat that dogs find irresistible. As well as providing a rich source of omega-6 oils, it is also an important source of energy.
We have also selected pure, cold-pressed salmon oil produced from fish reared in the cold, clear waters of the Norwegian fjords, as a source of the essential omega-3 oils, DHA and EPA.
Both oils are used to coat the kibbles, thereby avoiding the cooking process which can denature and destroy many of their beneficial qualities.
Furthermore, rather than use synthetic preservatives, such as ethoxyquin and BHT, which are so common in our dogs food, we use natural alternatives like rosemary extract and vitamin E.
To boost flavour and improve digestion
To boost palatability even further we have selected a small range of ingredients designed to naturally enhance the flavours of the meat. Yeast & malt extracts, and cooked duck liver (digest) are added to compliment the savoury, meaty tastes and aromas that your dog will find irresistible.
Organic honey and apple cider vinegar also have a long history of beneficial use in human nutrition however, due to their high cost, they are rarely used in pet food recipes. Besides their health and digestive benefits they provide a little natural sweetness and acidity to enhance flavours already present, and help to stabilise the digestive environment to promote the growth of healthy bacteria.
A small but carefully selected range of essential vitamins and organic minerals complete and perfectly balance the recipe, ensuring that your dogs nutritional requirements are fully met.
Our Krill Oil
We proudly offer to your pet (dog or cat) this exclusive supplement, pure and produced from sustainable and ecologically sensitive resources. Our krill oil contributes to maximize a healthy state for your pet, supplying to its organism the more bioavailable omega 3 fatty acids EPA and DHA.
What is krill
Antarctic krill (Euphausia superba) is a source of highly bioavailable phospholipid omega-3 fatty acids, the powerful antioxidant Astaxanthin and high quality proteins intended for pet food, treats and nutritional supplements.
Krill live in the coldest and purest waters on Earth, the Antarctic Ocean. Unlike fish, they are free from heavy metals and other pollutants as they live in areas that are completely absent of industrial factories.
What is Astaxanthin
Antarctic krill is a good source of natural antioxidant Astaxanthin, which gives it its red colour.
Astaxantin protects agains the cell oxidation caused by free radicals, and makes the lipid stable against chemical reactions.
Its antioxidant capacity is 500 times greater than vitamin E and 10 times greater that beta-carotene.
Astaxanthin also keeps the krill oil fresh, naturally preserving it from oxidation.
Omega-3 fatty acids have proven health benefits
Omega-3 fatty acids are proven to have numerous health benefits for pets, just like humans
Numerous clinical studies in pets have proven the health benefits of the long chain omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA, which are vital components in every cell membrane supporting cell survival, growth, renewal and other critical functions.
As such, health promoting effects of EPA and DHA are found in several vital organs, including the heart, kidney, liver, joints, brain, eyes and skin, and are beneficial to maintain a healthy coat.
EFICIENCY AND AVAILABILITY
Omega 3 fatty acids from krill are bounded to phospholipids which increases their bioavalability. They are superior to Omega 3 triglycerides from fish.
The Omega-3 fatty acids in krill oil are mainly present in a phospholipid form, which are the building blocks of all cell membranes. This ensures efficiency delivery of these fatty acids to cells, tissues and organs.
The omega-3s in most pet food are derived from oily fish, providing omega-3s in triglyceride form.Triglycerides are insoluble in water and have a different structure to the lipids in the cell membranes, and instead function as long-term energy storage.
Phospholipid omega-3s are the building blocks of cell membranes and have a higher uptake into the cell membranes. Being water dispersible makes them gentler on the stomach and more readily absorbed by the body.
Elevated concentrations of omega-3s in vital organs, such as the brain, eyes and liver, are observed when they are delivered as omega-3 phospholipids compared to omega-3 triglycerides.
Compared to healthy dogs, those who are overweight and obese have an increased level of signaling molecules (endocannabinoids) that influence appetite and emotional state.
Krill phopsholipid omega-3s have been shown to decrease the level of these signaling molecules, which can have a positive effect in the regulation of food intake in obese animals.
Omega-3 fatty acids help to maintain a healthy omega-6:3 ratio in the diet, which has been shown to provide anti-inflammatory properties
Many pet foods for dogs and cats contain excessive amounts of omega-6 fatty acids. Current research indicates that a balanced ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids of 5:1 or lower would be most beneficial for pets and humans.
A typical dog food is based on cereal and meat and is therefore high in omega-6. Too much omega-6 fatty acids promotes inflammation and may exacerbate conditions, such as skin disease, arthritis, and renal problems. Achieving the right fatty acid balance is important in maintaining good health.
Not all Omega-3 fatty acids are equal
Humans and animals are limited in their ability to convert plant-based omega-3 fatty acids (ALA) into EPA and DHA. Approximately 5 % or less of dietary ALA from plants is converted to EPA, and less than 0,5 % of dietary ALA is converted to DHA.
Krill oil contributes towards a reduction in cardiovascular disease and improve the cholesterol and triglyceride balance.
Krill oil has proven to be effective against inflamation of the connective tissues like cartilage or tendons.
Omega-3’s are anti-inflammatory nutrients that can help balance the body’s level of inflammation and promote health and wellness. Omega-3s work with the body to bring it back into balance. When the body’s inflammation level is balanced, there is less illness and disease.
Skin and coat
Krill oil is rich in EPA and DHA, thereby promoting healthy skin and a shiny coat.
Omega 3 also helps to fight dermatitis and eccema.
Brain and visión
Omega-3s help to improve the cognitive functions as they act on the transmission of information in the nervous system.
A correct level of EPA and DHA requires less light stimulation to cause a photoelectric response.
Sustainable & Ecologically Sensitive Resource
Krill is one of the largest biomasses on Earth and it is strongly preserved. The Commision for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) strictly limits the fishing area (area 48) where, from an estimated biomass of over 60 million tonnes, only 1% is allowed to be fished.
In 2011 only 0,35% of the total biomass was harvested.
Our krill is MSC Certified, the highest certification of sustainable fishing in the world.
Total traceability & quality
Production processes are closely controlled over the entire sequence of actions from harvesting of krill in the Southern Ocean, to delivery of products to customers. Every product batch can be traced back to the coordinates of the vessel when the harvesting took place, in the purest waters on earth.
By controlling the entire supply chain, from harvesting krill, processing raw materials, final processing and packing to preserve the pristine freshness, we are able to guarantee the highest level of quality
